Jens V.
Private tutor in Kruibeke, Belgium
Education
I have a Bachelor in biology, and a Masters in evolutionary and behavioural biology at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. I am currently finishing up my PhD thesis on reproduction in a solitary bee (University of Leeds, England). Furthermore, I'm currently brushing up my mathematical literacy. This for the purposes of self-learning mathematical modelling using Sara Otto and Troy Day's book: A Biologist's Guide to Mathematical Modeling in Ecology and Evolution. I like to think of myself as being as engaged a tutor as I am an engaged student.
Experience
I am use to supervising MBiol students at the Duncan laboratory at Leeds. I also have a broad background in biology and zoology in general, with a more in depth knowledge of evolutionary and behavioural biology. I have two academic papers published so far: - Van Eeckhoven, J., Huyghe, K. & Van Damme, R. 2017. Artificial selection in guppies: male and female phenotypes produced by inter- and intrasexual selection. Journal of Zoology 303, 99-106. - Van Eeckhoven, J. & Duncan, E. J. 2020. Mating status and the evolution of eusociality: Oogenesis is independent of mating status in the solitary bee Osmia bicornis. J Insect Physiol 121, 104003.

Hobbies
I enjoy listening to music (Van Morrison, Florence and the Machine, Bruce Springsteen, and many others..). Furthermore I enjoy reading pop-science, science, and fantasy in my spare time. I love being outdoors on hikes, and I also enjoy bouldering and swimming (although these have been put on hold with the current Covid-19 pandemic).
